Powering the Future Fleet
Lithium-ion battery powered vehicles are limited aboard U.S. Navy maritime platforms due to perceived risks of power failures and safety hazards, forcing a reliance on less efficient energy sources and ultimately limiting the advancement of warfighting capabilities.

In support of mission-critical defense modernization efforts, VTG has created and fielded a prototype software/hardware Critical Battery Management System (CBMS) for lithium-ion powered platforms — the first safety-certifiable battery management system for lithium-ion platforms, engineered to prevent failures while enabling long-term energy storage.
Using bare metal software development with state-of-the-art hardware design, CBMS monitors and controls the charging process to prevent mishaps via reliable sensor data and communication paths, visual indication of battery status, intelligent alarms, and protected controls. This ensures the reliability of essential platforms in even the most demanding maritime conditions. CBMS is proving itself in the naval arena and stands to benefit defense customers across domains.
Key Benefits of CBMS:
- Improved Readiness: Provides immediate access to energy reserves, improving readiness and accelerating mission execution.
- Real-Time Monitoring and Control: Tracks charging and operational status via robust sensors and secure communication paths.
- Enhanced Safety: Prevents mishaps with visual indicators, intelligent alarms, and safeguarded controls.
- Efficient Integration: Modular design which is reconfigurable and scalable to affordably support a range of tactical vehicles.
With CBMS, VTG is advancing defense modernization and enabling the Navy to leverage cutting-edge energy technologies safely, ensuring readiness for the challenges of modern warfare. Commanders gain access to more efficient and powerful energy solutions, enhancing mission effectiveness in contested environments.
