The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) needed to streamline its international travel approval process for enlisted and civilian personnel. The existing system was manual, spreadsheet- and email-based, and lacked visibility, often leading to confusion, delays, and non-compliance. Travelers were often unaware of destination-specific requirements, approval workflows, and points of contact, resulting in an inefficient and frustrating process. AFRL sought a solution that would enhance operational efficiency while introducing an Agile approach to the organization.
VTG partnered with AFRL to provide hands-on Agile coaching and training through practical application, developing and implementing a digital international travel approval solution that automates and optimizes their process.
VTG’s ITAP solution transformed AFRL’s travel approval process into a transparent, efficient, and compliant system. Travelers and administrative staff gained visibility into request status and requirements, significantly reducing delays and confusion. The rules engine ensured consistent enforcement of security protocols, while Agile training empowered AFRL teams to sustain and evolve the solution. This initiative not only improved operational performance but also introduced scalable digital practices across the organization.
