Kirk Herdman serves as VTG’s President of the Intelligence Community (IC) Operating Group (OG) and is a member of its Board of Directors. He is responsible for leading VTG’s market expansion strategy focused on delivering innovative technologies and digital solutions to a growing portfolio of National Security customers. Kirk initiated VTG’s IC practice in 2020, leading its growth to nearly 500 employees delivering mission-essential solutions across numerous prime and subcontract awards.
Kirk has over 30 years of demonstrated success in both operational and business development-related executive leadership positions with a focus on the sustained growth of private and public companies in the national security segment of the Federal Government Contracting (GOVCON) market.
Most recently, Kirk served as the Executive Vice President for Business Development and Corporate Development at KeyW Corporation, completing a successful sale to Jacobs Corporation in June of 2019. Previously, he was the Chief Strategy Officer for Sotera Defense Solutions, where he led the company’s business development and strategy functions. Kirk joined Sotera as Senior Vice President for Business Development and Operations in 2009 to create a centralized business development organization and lead the growth strategy of an emerging, mission-focused, national security company. He supported the company’s successful Initial Public Offering (IPO), four acquisitions, a successful sale to a private equity firm, and ultimately its sale to KeyW. His organic growth accomplishments at KeyW and Sotera include consistent double-digit growth driven by market-leading win rates against much larger competitors.
Kirk spent over 16 years of his career with General Dynamics (formerly Veridian Corporation), where he served as Vice President for Business Development, responsible for business development activities for the Intelligence Community and Defense Agency. Other leadership positions include Senior Vice President and General Manager for Defense and Science Programs at Wyle Information Systems and Vice President of Business Development at ManTech International Corporation. Kirk has a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Virginia Tech and has completed numerous executive training programs, including the Executive Training Program on Transformational Leadership at the University of Virginia’s Darden Business School.
