Kirk Herdman Joins VTG in New President Role to Lead National Security Market Expansion

Prior to joining VTG, Herdman served as Executive Vice President for Business Development and Corporate Development at KeyW Corp. (NASDAQ:KEYW), leading to its successful sale to Jacobs Corp. (NYSE:J) in June 2019. Previously, Herdman was Chief Strategy Officer for Sotera Defense Solutions, where he supported the company’s initial public offering as Global Defense Technology & Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:GTEC) in 2009, multiple acquisitions, and ultimately its sale to KeyW in 2017. Herdman’s accomplishments at KeyW and Sotera included multiple, large, prime contract awards and consistent double-digit organic growth. Prior to joining Sotera, Herdman was Senior Vice President and General Manager for Defense and Science Programs at Wyle Information Systems. He has also held executive leadership positions at General Dynamics Corp. (NYSE:GD), ManTech International Corp. (NASDAQ:MANT), and Veridian Corp. (NYSE:VNX). Herdman is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics.

VT Group Awarded Presidential Helicopters Support Contract

Chantilly, VA, May 7, 2020 – VT Group, a leading technology integrator and C5ISR solutions provider, announced that it has been awarded a $105M contract by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to support the Presidential Helicopters Program Office (PMA-274), Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), and Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Twenty-One (HX-21). Under the five-year, single-award contract VT Group will provide the US Navy and Marine Corps with research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E); integrated logistics; engineering; and maintenance support.

The presidential helicopter fleet provides rotary wing transportation to the President and Vice President of the United States, heads of state, and other official parties. VT Group has supported PMA-274 since 2004, leveraging its uniquely qualified engineering and technical expertise to provided mission-critical services for the mixed fleet of VH-3D and VH-60N aircraft that currently transport the President, as well as other support platforms. Under this new contract, VT Group will continue to support the existing fleet, but will also integrate the new VH-92A® helicopter into full operational service. The Navy has said that it will procure 21 VH92A operational aircraft and two test aircraft; the new platform will offer technological and performance improvements and serve as a complete mobile command-and-control platform.

VT Group to Modernize U.S. Navy C4ISR Systems Worldwide

Chantilly, VA, October 22, 2019 – VT Group, a premier technology integrator and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) solutions provider, has been selected by Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) as one of eight awardees for an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) multiple award contract in support of the Shore Global
C4ISR Installation Contract. VT Group will compete to perform the installation of integrated C4ISR and supporting systems at US Navy installations worldwide. The work will be performed at shore-based facilities, and on towers, piers, and platforms, as well as mobile systems and special purpose vehicles. The contract vehicle has a ceiling value of $968 million over a five-year base and one five-year option period. This past July, VT Group was awarded a similar contract to modernize C4ISR systems aboard the Navy’s growing Fleet of surface ships and submarines.

Thomas Lydon Joins VT Group as President, Aviation Solutions

Lydon has also held executive and senior-level leadership positions at industry-leading firms such as Vistronix, SAIC, General Dynamics, Veridian, and Grumman Aerospace, overseeing large-scale operations and business development.

Lydon started his career with the U.S. Navy as an E-2C radar operator for Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 126. He is a graduate of the College of Southern Maryland in La Plata, MD and serves on the Board of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).

Founded in 1981, NTA’s 300 employees provide research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) support and a full spectrum of mission-critical maintenance and sustainment services for fixed and rotary-wing, tilt-rotor, and unmanned aircraft. The acquisition of NTA positions VT Group as a key industry partner to the Defense Department on several high-priority initiatives, including the U.S. Navy’s Presidential Helicopter and V-22 Osprey programs.

He holds degrees from the U.S. Naval Academy and Harvard University, and is a Board member of the Navy League of the United States.

Ted is an experienced transactions, corporate, operations, government contracting, and compliance attorney, and he will lead the legal, contracts, risk management, and industrial security departments. Ted previously served as general counsel of Vistronix and Global Integrated Security (USA) and worked in the legal departments of General Dynamics and Veridian.

In collaboration with other key executives, Ted successfully planned and executed several complex strategic financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and post-acquisition integrations while he was with Vistronix, including the acquisitions of six technology companies and the sale of the company to ASRC Federal Holding Company in 2016.

Ted received his juris doctor degree magna cum laude from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C. and his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. He is admitted to the Virginia State Bar and the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

VT Group Focuses Business on C4ISR Market

As part of its continued strategic focus on the C4ISR market, VT Group announces the sale of its Healthcare and International Hospitality business segments to Sangha Associates, a company owned and operated by former VT Group CEO, Dean Willard. The Healthcare business involves the delivery of nurse call and real-time location systems and solutions and services to hospitals. The International Hospitality business involves designing, building, installing and maintaining Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) for in-room and back-of-house solutions and services to hotels located outside of North America. The transaction closed on October 31, 2017.

“The divestiture of VT Group’s Healthcare and International Hospitality segments is the right deal at the right time for both parties,” said John Hassoun, President and CEO, VT Group. “VT Group will continue to focus on driving growth in its core services and offerings.”
