Case Study

Acquisition Insight

The Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) Program Executive Office (PEO) Ships is one of the Defense Department’s largest acquisition organizations, managing the design, construction, and delivery of the Navy’s surface combatants, amphibious, and auxiliary ships. As part of its mission to drive affordability and deliver critical warfighting capabilities, PEO Ships’ acquisition management team must effectively manage the risks of thousands of government-furnished equipment (GFE) systems supplied to shipbuilders each year.

VTG developed an overarching risk-based approach for better managing GFE under PEO Ships’ oversight. Our automated tool gathers all relevant information and provides a single comprehensive picture to the acquisition team—including contract, schedule, technical, and cost risk information—and supplies a high-level risk picture of all GFE systems. Updated in real time, the VTG solution serves as a quick-reference risk assessment and mitigation tool for program managers and staff.
